NeoWords

Privacy Policy

NeoWords has no accounts, no sign-in and no analytics service. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us, because there is nowhere for it to be sent.

The short version

What the app stores, and where

Learning progress
Which words you have met, where each sits on the review ladder, your streak, your daily goal and your settings. Stored as a single file inside the app's own container on your device.
iCloud backup
The same file is mirrored to your private iCloud key-value store, so a new phone picks up where the old one left off. It belongs to your Apple ID. We have no access to it, and it is covered by Apple's privacy policy. Turning off iCloud Drive for NeoWords in iOS Settings stops it.
Usage counts
The app counts things like "a row was finished" so it can show you your own weekly chart. These counters are aggregated on the device and never transmitted. You can switch them off entirely in You → Analytics.
Reminders
One local notification a day, at the time you choose, skipped when you have already closed your ring. Scheduled by iOS on your device; no server is involved.

What leaves your device

Word pictures and audio

Illustrations and pronunciation clips are downloaded from our content network at cdn.neodeutsch.app, operated by Cloudflare. Like any web request this means Cloudflare's edge sees the IP address that asked for a file, as part of delivering it and protecting the service. Those logs are not linked to a person by us — there is no account to link them to — and we do not use them to build a profile.

Weekly Blitz league (optional)

If — and only if — you tap Join the league, your Sprint score is submitted to a Game Center leaderboard under the nickname your Apple ID uses for Game Center. Nothing is sent before you join, and the league is run by Apple, not by us. See Apple's privacy policy. You can leave at any time in iOS Settings → Game Center.

Purchases

Payments are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card, your billing address or your Apple ID. We receive only the fact that a purchase or subscription is active on your device.

Proposed pictures (beta builds only)

TestFlight builds carry one extra thing the App Store version does not: a way to tell us a word’s illustration is wrong, optionally with a picture of your own. If — and only if — you tap Send, that picture and your note are uploaded to a private staging bucket at Cloudflare, together with a random six-character tag so two testers’ suggestions can be told apart. The tag is not linked to you, your device or your Apple ID, and it changes if the app is reinstalled. Nothing is sent before you tap Send, no other tester can see what you sent, and the whole feature is absent from the released app.

Children

NeoWords is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, children included. There is no chat, no user-generated content, no advertising and no third-party SDK inside the app.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to export, correct or delete on request. Everything the app knows about you is on your device: deleting the app removes it, and turning off iCloud for NeoWords removes the backup copy.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update this page and the date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
